- COUNT
Number of Open Spaces per lineal inch.
- CRIMP
Knuckles in Warp and Shute wires which lock all wires into position. When both Warp and Shute wires are crimped it is known as Double Crimp.
- INTERCRIMP
Extra crimp in wires between points of intersection.
- DUTCH WEAVE
Plain or twilled.
- GAUGE
Diameters of wires.
- ROLL
Standard roll equals 100 lineal feet.
- SELVAGE
The finished woven edge of wire cloth.
- SHUTE
Wire running across width of cloth. Also called fill wire.
- SPACE
Size of clear openings between adjacent wires.
- SQUARE MESH
Mesh Count is same in both directions.
- WARP WIRE
Runs Parallel to length of wire cloth roll.
- WEAVE
Pattern in which Warp and Shute (fill) wires are interwoven.
- MESH
''MESH" in wire cloth is the distance from centre to centre of parallel wires. In specifications for wire cloth the numeral which precedes the word ``mesh'' indicates the number of openings in one lineal inch. This is the mesh ``count'' Thus: 4 mesh means the cloth has 4 openings per linear inch, each measuring 1/4 inch from centre to centre of adjacent parallel wires.
- OPENING
"OPENING'' is the Space between adjacent parallel wires. Its size is not affected by diameter of wire used in the cloth or screen. Thus, cloth or Screen of 1/2" Space allows material of 1/2" Diameter to pass through it, regardless of Mesh Wire size. (See illustration). The term '"Opening" usually is applied to heavy grades of wire cloth or screen used for screening coal, gravel, etc., and determines screened product size.
- DIAMETERS
DIAMETER Several recognized standards, some of which are almost obsolete, may be used to gauge wire diameter which is the critical factor. Wire mills, in drawing wire, recommend use of the decimal system of measurement in specifications. With the exception of some of the heavier Space Screens where size is specified in fractional parts of an inch.
